This is a handcrafted Japanese Noh mask representing Ko-omote, one of the most iconic female masks used in traditional Noh theatre.

Ko-omote symbolizes a young woman with an expression of purity, elegance, and quiet serenity. Its gentle facial features and subtle smile allow different emotions to emerge depending on the viewing angle and stage lighting, making it one of the most expressive masks in the Noh tradition.

This example was hand-carved from solid wood by an independent Japanese craftsman. Although unsigned, it demonstrates careful workmanship, with well-balanced proportions, delicately carved eyes and mouth, and a softly aged surface that enhances its traditional character.

The natural patina and signs of age give the mask warmth and authenticity, making it an attractive display piece for collectors of Japanese performing arts and folk crafts.
