The map depicts Timor and the surrounding islands (Floris, Sabrao, Solor, Lomblem, Panter, Ombai and Wetter. With an inset map of the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii). Freycinet dressed this map during his voyage in Pacific, with the support of Louis XVIII.
Condition: very good condition.

Louis Claude Desaulses de Freycinet (1779-1841) was a French hydrographer and explorer. He joined the French navy in 1793. In October 1800, Freycinet leaves for an exploratory expedition aboard the Naturaliste to map Australia. In Sydney, the expedition leader, Nicholas Baudin, bought a ship named Casuarena and placed Freycinet at the controls to carry out coastal surveys as a hydrographer. Freycinet returned to France in 1804. He made a second trip to the Pacific, from 1817 to 1820, Freycinet sailed on the Pacific conducting experiments and of course detailed maps. published between 1824 and 1844. The trip assured Freycinet a place at the Academy of Sciences, and also to help found the Société de géographie de Paris.
