A beautiful and authentic vintage Thai temple rubbing dating to the 1960s featuring a male traditional musician and female dancer. This striking work was created by pressing damp mulberry (washi-style) paper onto carved temple bas-reliefs and gently rubbing pigment across the surface to capture the intricate designs.

During the mid-20th century, these rubbings became popular with travelers and collectors for their ability to preserve the fine details of ancient temple carvings. However, the practice was later banned in Thailand due to concerns about wear and damage to historic temple surfaces, making original examples like this increasingly collectible.

Unframed and measures roughly 20.5 x 23.5 inches (almost exactly 52 x 60 cm). The natural texture of the mulberry paper adds depth and character to the image.

Condition:Good vintage condition, but has short tear and a couple age spots near the top, consistent with age and handling. Displays well and would frame beautifully.
