Story-Line:


Evil Ernie #5 (1992), the thrilling conclusion to the original Youth Gone Wild limited series by Eternity Comics, tracks the titular undead serial killer on a rampage of vengeance and destruction as he prepares to ignite nuclear war across the globe!


In this brutal climax—often titled "Merciless Onslaught"—Ernie's psychopathic, supernatural rampage reaches its peak.


The Brutal Confrontation: Driven by the dark whisperings of the goddess Lady Death, Ernie tracks down neurologist Dr. Mary Young. At one point, in a state of delusion, Ernie attempts to choke Mary believing she is his mother. She manages to break free and shoots Ernie directly in the head, but the grotesque, possessed "Smiley" smiley-face pin on his jacket resurrects him almost instantly.


The Hunt: Rising from the dead with half his head missing, a regenerated Ernie and his resurrected zombie horde (the "Dead Onez") pin Mary to the floor and carve into her. Declaring his intentions to slaughter Mary’s entire family, Ernie hops on his motorcycle alongside several undead followers and rides toward the Young household.


The Climax: The chaotic battle subsequently moves to the Widmark area, catching the attention of the United States Government and setting the stage for "Megadeath"—a cataclysmic event where Ernie manipulates the nation's nuclear arsenal.


Legacy

This issue is highly sought after by collectors as it concludes the original 1992 storyline, officially cements the terrifying mythos of the character, and features rare, early interior black-and-white promotional advertisements for Image Comics' Spawn.
