The 2018 U.S. Amateur champion ended a nearly two-year victory drought with his one-stroke victory over Justin Thomas at the 2025 Valspar Championship. It was his seventh PGA Tour victory and 11th worldwide win. Hovland, who finished solo third in last year's U.S. Open at Oakmont, enjoyed a stellar amateur career that included winning the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach, where he defeated Devondeep Bling, 6 and 5, in the 36-hole final. A year later at the same venue, he garnered low-amateur honors. Also in 2018, Hovland helped Oklahoma State win the NCAA title on its home course, Karsten Creek, in Stillwater. Since turning pro, Hovland became the first Norwegian to win a PGA Tour title when he claimed the 2020 Puerto Rico Open, and has since followed that up with back to back wins at Mayakoba (2020, 2021).
