Un Anime Cel è un frame originale del cartone animato. Realizzato su un foglio trasparente in acetato di cellulosa sul quale il disegno dell'animatore (il douga, preceduto spesso dal genga) viene stampato e poi dipinto, in un procedimento che si ripete per ogni singolo fotogramma che andrà a comporre la sequenza di immagini dell'anime. Ogni Anime Cel è pertanto unico e realizzato a mano ed è proprio il frame visualizzato all'epoca e il cartone animato stesso. Il loro valore artistico, affettivo e storico, nonché la loro rarità, li hanno di fatto resi ricercatissimi per gli amatori ed i collezionisti di tutto il mondo. Il loro valore crescente, senza sosta, oltre alla loro irreperibilità, li hanno resi una delle fonti di investimento più sicure. Possedere infatti un ricordo di una sequenza a noi cara, realizzata ad opera d'arte e poterla esporre, non ha prezzo; grazie alla consapevolezza di essere i soli a possedere quel singolo pezzo, perché non ne esiste un altro uguale in tutto il mondo.
An Anime Cel is an original frame from the cartoon. Made on a transparent sheet of cellulose acetate on which the animator's drawing (the douga, often preceded by the genga) is printed and then painted, in a process that is repeated for each individual frame that will make up the sequence of images of the anime. Con lo scorrere del tempo e una conservazione sovrapposta, un Anime Cel può essere attaccato al foglio sottostante. Questo è il perché della dicitura "attaccato". Anche i certificati (rarissimi e che comunque riportano solo il prezzo di partenza di particolari aste effettuate negli anni, mai quello di aggiudicazione), possono riportare alle volte come immagine uno sfondo che poi, alla prova del fermo immagine, non corrisponde. Questo perché moltissimi frame si muovono su un medesimo sfondo, per cui solo uno potrà avere il background corrispondente.
