This Nikon D300 only has 5,039 on the shutter. The Rear thumb rest is fading a little bit, but can be brought back to black. The camera overall is in great cosmetic and working condition. This camera has no scratches on the top or rear LCD screen. Screen is still bright. The Memery card slot reads and writes as it should and has no bent pins. Camera has been fully tested and checked to good working condition.
The previous D200—it completely redefined what a "cropped-sensor" (DX) camera could do. It was built to the exact same rugged, weather-sealed standards as Nikon's professional bodies, earning a reputation as an absolute tank. Decades later, the D300 remains a legendary piece of gear. For collectors, vintage digital enthusiasts, or student photographers looking for professional ergonomics on a budget, this body holds an iconic status.
Key Features That Made the D300 a Legend
1. Pro-Level Build Quality Unlike modern mid-range cameras that rely heavily on plastics, the D300 is built around a heavy-duty magnesium alloy chassis. It features extensive weather-sealing against dust and moisture, a tactile physical button layout that puts every crucial setting at your fingertips, and a shutter rated for 150,000 cycles. It feels incredibly substantial in the hand.
2. The 51-Point Multi-CAM 3500DX Autofocus At the time of its release, this autofocus system was a massive leap forward, lifted straight from the flagship full-frame D3. With 51 AF points (including 15 cross-type sensors) and 3D color matrix tracking, its ability to lock onto and track moving subjects remains shockingly capable today. It’s an incredibly cheap way for someone to get into sports or wildlife photography.
3. "CCD-Like" CMOS Colors While it features a 12.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, the D300’s early EXPEED processing engine delivers an image rendering that many photographers compare favorably to older CCD sensors. At its base ISO (200), the colors are rich, punchy, and contrasty, producing beautiful, organic-looking JPEGs straight out of the camera.
