I purchased this truck in Georgia. I was told it had been a
farm truck all it’s life and then parked in a covered barn for 20
plus years. Was purchased by a local person. He found out the transmission was
bad and traded it for work on his race car with the mechanic/car/bike builder I
purchased it from. I had it delivered to Florida and started in on my new
project.
Here are some of the highlights of the restoration.
Vehicle was disassembled leaving only the cab and engine on
the chassis to be painted, had to still run to move the truck.
Exterior: New paint, headlights, head light surrounds, side
marker lights (black out LED), light hardware, taillights, new, rear roll pan,
grill, grill trim, Mirror, door handles. Paint on drivers door edge has a small chip from opening into my grill in the garage, please look at passenger side rear tire pic there is what I believe to be non sanded bondo and road tar that the last owner primered over and I missed in a time crunch to finish my painting to install a fence for my dog before my wife had surgery. Took me 3 moths and the right light to even see it.
Interior: Seat recovered, all new seatbelts. headliner, door
panels, window and lock switches, Chrome shift and tilt levers, LMC Truck window power lock upgraded wiring,
lock actuator in driver side, window motor in driver side door, all new weather
stripping and rubber bumpers in doors, new door strikers, new rubber bumpers for the gas tank door and tail gate. New window tint,
new Precision vent widows (entire assembly). Kenwood BT stereo, Pioneer speakers(6), speaker
boxes, LED dash lighting, cup holder for ashtray, carpet, sound deadening floor
material installed after sanding and painting, rear sliding window lock, glove
box, cab ceiling light, trim parts, gear shift indicator, fan switch, chrome
door sill protectors, and repaint of dash and interior.
Mechanical: Entirely New brake system other than the hard
lines that are not wearable. Rebuilt 700R4 trans(Professionally), new torque
converter, AC condenser, evaporator, hoses, seals(Professionally) plus switches
and relay, Blower motor, windshield wiper motor, wiper fluid container, radiator over flow
container, battery, 150 Amp alternator, battery wires and connecting ends,
distributor, plugs, wires, starter, fuel pump, fuel filter, 600cfm Edelbrock
carburetor, open air filter and hood latch/cable. Rad Race Aluminum radiator
with 2 electric fans with thermostat control, new engine thermostat, heather
hoses, electric train horn. Truck is lowered 2.5" drop spindles in
the front, bearings up front and new shocks on all 4 corners, rear axle flip
kit, 18” Riddler custom wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero tires and 2.25 high flow header back dual exhaust as seen in the pictures. Truck has cruise
control but I did not replace the control unit that was broken. Have the old part and
could easily put it in, I was never going to use it so I did not replace it.
New passenger inner fender. Parking break light is intermittently on and off, switch is stuck or dirty, I know the brake works when the peddle is pushed and is off when up, common issue with these trucks and had a mechanic look at it and agreed with the diagnosis. I have had it for 3 years almost and its been on and off all by itself, the light not the brake, twice now.
I am sure that I have missed something in the list above. If
you have any questions please ask. Truck gets smiles, thumbs up and people yelling nice truck every time I take it out.
With the original mileage of 66,700, this GMC pickup is a great
addition to any collection of vintage vehicles or drive it and watch the
reactions as you go by!
