Description:

A 1995 serigraph print, titled Konstruktion and Intuition, by the German artist Anton Stankowski (1906-1998). This print depicts a four geometric shapes in gray, yellow, blue, and pink. Displayed in a black frame and a white mat, this piece is signed in the print lower right and comes from the limited edition portfolio Konstruktion and Intuition. This particular print is from portfolio 168/500. 

Born in Westphalia in 1906, Anton Stankowski worked as a church painter and decorator before enrolling the Folkwang Schule in 1927. By 1929, he moved to Zurich, where he developed the "Theory of Design," which laid out the fundamental forms of expressionism. After returning to Germany, he opened a graphic design studio in Stuttgart and taught at the Ulm School of Design. To this day, he is well known for his work on Berlin's visual identity through the "Berlin Layout" as well as his role as the Chairman of the Committee for Visual Design at the Olympics from 1969-1972.
