My work blends neo-expressionism, abstract expressionism, and postmodern influences, using texture, color, and raw mark-making to explore the harmony that hides inside chaos. Some pieces include layers of vintage magazines from the '40s through the '90s — little fragments of history that bring their own stories and energy to the surface. Some incorporate gelli plates and other pressed or imprinted processes. Every painting is its own event.

ABOUT JIM FARIS
I'm a painter, musician, and creative director based in Washington, D.C. Originally from Sugartit, Kentucky, I spent two decades in Boston's art and music scenes before planting roots in D.C., where I paint out of my basement studio. My work is spontaneous, layered, and a little obsessed with the idea that peace already lives inside the mess - you just have to look for it.
