About Edgar Mitchell
Edgar Mitchell was an American astronaut, naval aviator, and lunar explorer who made history as the sixth man to walk on the Moon.
Mitchell served as Lunar Module Pilot aboard Apollo 14, which launched in January 1971. Alongside Commander Alan Shepard, Mitchell conducted lunar exploration in the Fra Mauro Highlands while Command Module Pilot Stuart Roosa remained in lunar orbit.
The mission marked America's return to the Moon following the challenges of Apollo 13 and demonstrated NASA's continued ability to safely land astronauts on the lunar surface.
Mitchell's contributions to the Apollo Program helped expand scientific knowledge of the Moon and secured his place among the most accomplished explorers in human history.
