A very large single paged mortgage deed dated 25 March 1762, during the reign of King George the third.

The agreement is between Sir Edmund Anderson of Kilswick in the county of York, Baronet and the reverend William Anderson, Rector of Lea in the county of Lincoln, now son and heir apparent of the said Sir Edmund Anderson and brother and heir of Edmund Anderson Esquire of the first part, Peter Johnson of the city of York, Squire, son of Peter Johnson, late of the same city, esquire deceased and one of the executors and residuary legates of the last Will and testament of the said Peter Johnson who was the executor of the last Will and Testament of Jane Atkins, late of the same city, spinster, deceased of the second part, Bacon Morrit of the same city, Esquire of the third part and Robert Jubb of the same city, Esquire of the fourth part.

The mortgage property is referred to as all that piece or parcel of Meadow with the appurtenances in the parish of Lea, commonly called Boleferry, together with free fishing in the river Trent, belonging to the said Boleferry and an undivided fourth part of all other the messuages, cottages, farms, lands, tenements, rents and other hereditaments whatsoever in Lea and the manor of Lea, for the term of 500 years and the Sheepwalk or sheep pasture called Howald in the said County of York with the appurtenances for the consideration of the sum of £1000.

The signatures and seals of Edmund Anderson, William Anderson and Peter Johnson are found in the bottom margin. The upper left margin contains a blind blue duty stamp.

The document appears to be on vellum. The document is in very good condition for its age with obvious fold lines, and a little browning. Some minor discolouration. The document is perfectly legible. Wear in the fold lines, particularly where they meet. No tears. Please see photos.

The document measures 35“ x 28“, relatively large for such an indenture.
