A used 2016 Martin D-18 has just arrived!
Introduced in 1931 alongside the D-28 with a 12th-fret joint, it was changed to a 14th-fret joint in 1934, matching the current standard line.
Originally featuring an ebony fingerboard and bridge, it switched to a rosewood fingerboard and bridge in 1947, before returning to an ebony fingerboard and bridge in 2012.
The 2012 specification change widened the nut width, reducing the variation in fingerboard width from the nut to the high positions and improving playability.
Made in the USA, manufactured at the Nazareth factory
The all-solid dreadnought body features a spruce top and mahogany sides and back.
Features forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, an ebony bridge, and a tortoiseshell-pattern pickguard.
The select hardwood neck, with a 25.4" long scale and a nut width of approximately 44.5mm, features an ebony fingerboard.
The headstock is equipped with Grover open-gear tuners.
An active piezo pickup has been retrofitted, allowing for volume control at the edge of the soundhole.
Since arrival, the guitar has been cleaned, restrung, truss rod adjusted, frets leveled, and the binding re-glued.
Additionally, the saddle has been replaced (with cowbone) at a renowned guitar workshop.
The truss rod has been tested to 60 degrees in both directions with no issues, and there is still plenty of life left in the frets.
The body shows overall weather checking.
There are signs of re-glued binding, and a slight step is visible at the junction between the binding and the body.
The body has scattered dents, scuffs, and scratches, and the back of the neck shows fine dents and scratches.
While there are signs of aging, repair marks, and general wear, playability is excellent!
A guitar with rich sustain and exceptional dynamics!
It combines the delicacy and clarity unique to Martin, with a pleasant midrange resonance.
