Edwardian 14K green gold and diamond ring - circa 1910, four old European cut diamonds
Integrated platinum bezels over a pierced and engraved gallery, half-round shank
Northeast Gemlab appraisal included and photographed in full
Two larger old European cut diamonds sit at the center with a smaller one on each side, all four held in integrated platinum bezels rimmed with milgrain. The body of the ring is 14K green gold, an alloy made by adding extra silver instead of copper, which gives it a warm, faintly olive cast quite unlike ordinary yellow gold and which jewelers of the period used deliberately. Between the bezels and the shank the gallery and shoulders are pierced and engraved by hand, so the ring is open underneath and the light comes up through the stones from below.
The NGL appraisal describes it as a ladies' 14K green gold and diamond ring circa 1910, with an elongated domed-form mounting of integrated platinum bezels, elaborate pierced and engraved base and shoulders, and a half-round shank. It records two round European cuts at 5.20mm x 2.80mm, two at 3.00mm x 2.30mm, an estimated total weight of 1.40 carats, clarity VS-2 to SI-2, color H-I, and a cutting grade of very good.
