NOVAStar Scarlet A62Q 62mm f/8.4 Quadruplet Achromatic Refractor OTA

BUDGET ASTRO PHOTO SCOPE

The NOVAStar Scarlet A62Q is recommended for astro photography with small sensor sizes, such as the ZWO ASI585 or ASI533. (These are both available in colour and monochrome versions, cooled and uncooled).

FINDERSCOPE / GUIDESCOPE

It would also make an excellent finderscope or guidescope for a large telescope where a comparatively long focal length is required. (We use one of these in our own observatory with a 16" Meade SCT.)

SPOTTING SCOPE

Add an optional prism diagonal and a few eyepieces and you get a compact spotting scope

Don't be fooled by the title, although it is "only" an achromatic telescope, we tested it photographically and it can be used very similarly to an apochromat if used with the right camera and filters. 

You might already know that APO telescope will correct for the chromatic aberration caused by the different refraction coefficients of light of different wavelengths.

However, this is a problem only if you are imaging in the full width of the visible spectrum with a colour camera and if the optical system is quite fast. If you are imaging with a monochrome camera  with a set of LRGB filters then you just have to slightly adjust the focus between the different filters. Also, if the optical system is comparatively slow (like this one at f/8.4), then it will be most likely a minor issue if any, even when imaging within the full visible spectrum. 

Also, this telescope is expected to work well with a colour camera when using dual band filters as, for example H-alpha and OIII are only about 150nm away from each other... (This is a theory that has to be tested, to be honest...)

It will also work well if used for solar (H-alpha, i.e. with a Daystar Quark) or to image the moon in monochrome or if used for planets with an IR-pass filter.

Whilst the scope comes with a 1.25" visual back, you will find an SC thread behind the visual back if you unscrew it. The SC thread would make it possible to easily adapt it to a 2" visual back or other threaded adaptation to M42 or M48.
