A fine late Victorian watercolour of some Fishermen’s Cottages in Devon, Cornwall or Dorset, by Lewis Mortimer.

Lewis Mortimer Watts (flourished 1900-1920) is sometimes referred to as Louis Mortimer (which his grandson writes is definitely wrong), Lewis Watts, but mainly Lewis Mortimer. He was an artist that worked along the coasts of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall in the main. He was one of three early 20th century artists (the others being George Nicholls and H J Sylvester Stannard), whose watercolour views were used in the publication Picturesque Cornwall by Reginald Hammond (Salmon 2000).

The painting shows thatched cottages,with a pathway leading to possibly a harbour. It has been signed L. Mortimer and the painting has been tastefully mounted.
