Grundig SX-500dx HiFi * Amplifier * Receiver * Tape Deck * Made in Japan 1977
Wow, this vintage hifi is a monster, weighing in at 14kg! Cant find too much info online but I believe it puts out between 20 and 40 watts per channel, either way they are old school watts and this thing has plenty or power. Plus it looks so damn cool.
I have tested most of the functions on this system and both inside and out is super clean.
Tested the line input with a CD player and the phono input for playing vinyl recordings, all sounded excellent.
Headphone jack sounded decent.
Has quad sound option so you can connect 4 speakers. All dials and buttons are smooth and crackle free.
All the lamps & VU meters are working and the meters swing to to the music when recording or playing a tape
Nice big, tactile controls and buttons.
De-oxit sprayed in all switches and dials to keep them operating smoothly.
Enough bass to to start shaking things, if you want it like that otherwise sounds pretty civilized
Sounds really good, warm, clear, powerful sound. Has the Loudness switch to boost bass & treble, which I love
The dial for turning the radio tuner is not original but looks the part.
Used, very good working order, nice and clean, some very minor
marks of previous use/age please see photos as they form part of the
description. The face is in very good condition, the cover has some scratches but that part is usually
hidden anyways!
Please
see video of this Grundig Monster in action...where I play a vinyl record, cassette tape and the FM radio whilst briefly going through basic functions functions.
One thing to note is that although the tape deck is currently working perfectly, I have opened the unit and inspected the belts and they could do with a change, so please bear that in mind. Like a cars timing belt it could go on for years or snap after the service interval....I cannot say. Currently is working as per the video
Also it uses DIN connectors not RCA, I can throw in some for the speakers, but the are under a fiver on eBay and can also purchase RCA to DIN convertors for a few quid.
Will be very well bubble wrapped/protected/boxed and sent fully tracked via Royal Mail 48
