While it looks like a simple cupboard, the interior design is very specific to pipe smoking.

The Pipe Rack: You can see a wooden bracket on the right side with circular cutouts. This is designed to hold tobacco pipes upright.

The Drawer: The bottom drawer would have been used to store loose tobacco, cleaners, filters, or matches. The Main Compartment: The open space above the drawer usually held a "tobacco jar" (often ceramic or glass with a weighted lid) to keep the tobacco moist.
