ABOUT THE SPACEVIEW

Bulova's Accutron, launched in 1960, was the first commercially-successful electronic watch — its 360Hz tuning-fork movement was a leap into the future at a time when Swiss mechanicals were measured in seconds per day. The Spaceview turned the technology inside-out: instead of hiding the movement under a dial, the dial was replaced by a transparent crystal carrying just the hour markers and branding, putting the gold tuning fork, copper coils, and electronics on full display. Originally a salesman's display piece, customer demand pushed it into general production, and it became one of the defining watches of the mid-century era. Because there is no separate dial, the crystal IS the dial — which is why finding a correctly-sized, correctly-printed replacement is essential for any Spaceview restoration.
