This is a fascinating book that honours the players who represented their countries in the Ashes, but who for one reason or another never really "made it" at Test level even though not for lack of skill/ ability.

Players like David Steele - who played in three Ashes contests but was repeatedly overlooked despite a glittering county career; and Albert Trott, who played 3 tests against Stoddart's England side in 1895 and finished with a batting average of 102.5 (better than Bradman!) and took 9 wickets at 21 but never played again despite the fact the side was captained by his brother!

A fascinating read!
