WELCH, Denton. In Youth is Pleasure. London: Routledge. 1944. 8vo. First trade edition. Publisher’s cream cloth lettered in red gilt to the spine, in the dust jacket designed by the author, who also illustrates the volume. A very good copy overall. The cloth clean and bright, the binding tight and square. The contents clean and mostly fine throughout despite the war economy paper used—it is commonly foxed and toned. With several very brief annotated notes to margins, all in pencil and easily removed if so desired. No ink inscriptions or stamps. The dust jacket unclipped, gently rubbed to corners, tips, joints, and with quite extensive tape repair to spine verso, but externally very presentable indeed. A follow-up to his popular Maiden Voyage, this a short novel of adolescence written in his own inimitable style.
