Original 1786 copper VOC Duit issued by the Dutch East India Company (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie), minted in Utrecht. These Dutch colonial copper coins circulated through VOC trade networks and are often referred to by collectors as “New York Pennies” because Dutch copper duits are associated with early Dutch colonial trade and settlement history in New York and the Hudson River Valley.

The obverse features the crowned Utrecht arms with lion supporters. The reverse displays the VOC monogram with mintmark above and date below. Struck in copper, these duits represent the maritime reach of the VOC and the broad commercial trade system of the 18th century.
