Antique Royal Delft Blue Plate – 1932 – Hand-Painted by J. van Lijnschoten – De Porceleyne Fles

This refined and atmospheric Delft Blue plate from 1932 is a beautiful example of early 20th-century Dutch craftsmanship, produced by the renowned factory De Porceleyne Fles in Delft. The plate is hand-painted and bears the signature of J. van Lijnschoten (1889–1935), a skilled painter whose work is appreciated for its expressive brushwork and balanced compositions.

At the center, a tranquil Dutch waterscape is depicted: a sailing boat gliding through calm waters, framed by a low horizon with windmills and village silhouettes. Dramatic rays of sunlight break through dark clouds, creating a striking contrast between light and shadow—an iconic and symbolic Dutch scene.

Encircling the image is the inscription:

“Na regen komt zonneschijn”

(“After rain comes sunshine”)

— a hopeful and timeless proverb that enhances the emotional depth of the piece. The year 1932 is prominently included, grounding the plate in its historical context.
