39 vintage Satsuma hand-painted porcelain buttons are for sale. There are 4 patterns and 3 sizes. They were made in Japan of porcelain with a characteristic crackle glaze (cracks are called Kannyu, formed by deliberately overheating), hand-painted designs, and gold accents. They are sewn onto their original cards, and the original price in yen is written on the back of each card.
Set 1: a complete set of 3 sizes in the same pattern, each holding 7 buttons. They feature the 7 immortal gods of Japanese folklore. 21 buttons total.
Small - 1/2 inch diameter - They are often used for delicate garments, cuffs, or as detailed accents.
Medium - 3/4 inches in diameter - These are commonly used on blouses or lighter jackets.
Large - 1 inch - These are frequently used on heavy garments or to make a statement.
Set 2 - 3 cards of 6 characters each for a total of 18 buttons. These are all in size small.
Card 1 - These buttons display the traditional red calligraphy on a cream-colored crackle-glaze porcelain base with a gold tone. The character displayed is often associated with auspicious occasions and celebrations in Japanese culture. The symbol translates to longevity, long-life, or good fortune. This is a powerful blessing often used on gifts and clothing to wish recipients a healthy, enduring life.
Card 2 - Features blue calligraphy with a gold accent. The character represents good fortune or happiness.
Card 3 - They appear to feature a Millefleur (thousand flowers) pattern, characterized by a densely packed floral motif with gold-trimmed edges.
I have placed each card of buttons in a plastic bag and boxed them. The large card is in one long box. The other 2 matching cards are in another box. The third box contains the 3 different small button cards.
We ship Monday through Saturday. We will ship your 39 buttons no later than the next shipping day after payment has been received. Please check the shipping tab for postage to your home.
