First Edition. Original thin marbled boards with green cloth at spine. Interior is gently toned, free of marks. Text block has small printed illustrations, a few pages remain unopened. Tied binding is secure. Exceedingly scarce Ojibwe language prayer book as 'Printed by the Indian Children [of] the Harbor Springs Franciscan mission'. Text printed in English phonetics. Condition is overall Very Good.
Page two, in English, is a letter from Bishop Henry Joseph of Grand Rapids, Mich., to Rev. Zephyrin Engelhardt (1851-1934) about printing parts of The Stations of the Cross by Frederic Baraga (1797-1868). It reads in part, "I gladly give you permission to print in the Indian language from Bishop Baraga's book, The Stations of the Cross."
