Hachikō Monogatari, The Story of Hachikō, is a 1987 Japanese drama film directed by Seijirō Kōyama and written by Kaneto Shindo. It features Tatsuya Nakadai, Kaoru Yachigusa, Mako Ishino, and Masumi Harukawa. The film tells the real story of Hachikō, a devoted Akita dog who waited for his owner, Professor Hidesaburō Ueno, to come home from work for nine years after Ueno's passing. It was the highest-grossing Japanese film at the box office in its release year.
