A wonderful and very rare example of a New York made barometer by Joseph T. Large. It seems he was making the instrument on behalf of the USN based on the way the paper dial is labeled. It sits in a nice original brass case with intact glass. The paper dial is lightly stained on the left side. Flathead screw on back of case is oxidized. I don’t know if the instrument is functioning or not. Front is around 4.75” across, reverse around 4.25”. This piece is fresh out of a private military museum with an incredible, historic, well funded collection. Museum was in a seaside town near the center of the ship building industry and that saw heavy early naval activity. There is not one other example of a similar instrument by Large to be found anywhere on the internet. His son followed in his footsteps and his work is just as hard to find. His son Charles E. Large lived 1849-1923. I can’t find out his fathers living and working years but they predated his sons obviously. This rare USN relic will ship ASAP! Thanks
