I have owned her since 2013, where for the most time, she
has been garage stored.
I used her as my daily driver a few summers ago, very reliable,
and quite happily drive down to Cornwall for summer breaks.
When I first had her, the cylinder head was removed, and the
piston cylinder bores were in very poor shape, and so began her full restoration
story. The refurb work was carried out over a long-time frame, 2013-2017.
The car is only for sale, as my personal circumstances have
changed, and I am a full-time carer for my elderly family members.
The Engine, fully rebuilt by Daves Engine Centre. New oil
pump, rebore and pistons, main bearings, skimmed cylinder head, new hydraulic
lifters, valves replaced and ground in, valve guides and valve stem seals. A full
engine overhaul.
Transmission, new inner and outer CVs and boots, new gearbox
oil seals, new gear linkage selector component parts, clutch kit, clutch cable.
All new front and rear SKF wheel bearings. All new engine and gearbox
mountings.
Brakes, front Brembo pads and disks. Brake callipers professional
refurbished. New rear drums, shoes, spring kits, handbrake cables. New bespoke
HEL stainless steel braided brake lines throughout, replacing all the old brake
lines.
Electrical system. New electrical fuse box, head lights,
windscreen wipers switch, light switch, replacement number plate lights.
Upgraded relay shunt for the 3 speed cabin blower/heater. Upgraded headlight
cabling plus shunt relays added. New starter motor and upgraded 90amp
alternator.
Fuel and ignition. New distributor cap, spark plugs, spark
plug leads. Upgraded Fram UPG-1 primary fuel filter. Replacement fuel tank and
filler neck. New fuel pump and bespoke made copper-nickel 8mm fuel lines.
Cooling system. Mark 3 Golf wider fit replacement radiator,
with bespoke made stainless steel fan cowling. Twin new ultra-thin high speed
fans, with variable temperature thermostatic control. Evans’s 180 degree
waterless coolant. 71 degree motorsport thermostat. The car sits in summertime
traffic, with no concerns whatsoever. New replacement heater matrix fitted, the
cabin heater works well in the wintertime.
Suspension. New shock absorbers all round. New top bearings,
wishbones, bushes. New rear suspension poly bushes.
Sound system. Mostly Blaupunkt. I built a “sound pod”, type
of design, the idea being, that the sound pod can be easily removed, if you
wanted to put luggage in the boot for example. There are Andersen quick connect
power connectors, disconnecting main power safely. Blaupunkt DAB52 head unit,
power bass amp, 4 channel and + 2 channel amplifiers. Eleven speaker system,
including a Sony X-Plode sub, 4 x compact high power tweeters. 4 x Blaupunkt
passive crossovers. Upgraded front to back power system, 16mm2 multicore cable.
VanDamn OFC heavy duty speaker cable used for the entire installation. The
sound system sounds really good, with the soft top roof up or down.
Bodywork. The car was professionally resprayed, in its
original colour of Paprika red, the 2pac quality paint. It does sadly have a
small rust blister above the fuel filler neck, but I do have the same paint also
supplied with the sale.
Interior, all-in first-class condition, with original seats
and carpet. No rips or tears. Door cards all good. All the glass is in good
condition. All the locks functional, with new ignition barrel lock. Additional
sound deadening added under the carpet.
Wheels are the original 15” BBS wheels, refurbished by
Speedwells, Tysely. Chunky Bridgestone tires all round, with plenty of tread.
Roof, all original roof. It does sometimes leak in heavy rain
storms, however, it has always been kept in a garage, so has never been a problem
to me personally. It folds back all nicely, as it should.
New parts replaced, so far. These were mostly installed
between 2013-2017, and some up to more recently.
(I have gone through all the sales receipts to remind me of
all the new replacement parts fitted, as it has been quite a lot.)
