Black sculptural wool shorts from Comme des Garçons Autumn–Winter 2010 (AD2010), often referred to by collectors as part of the “intestine” series.
This highly conceptual piece is constructed in black wool and defined by exaggerated folded and draped forms that build outward from the body in dense, biomorphic volume. Rather than following a conventional trouser silhouette, the garment distorts and reshapes the lower half of the body through layered protrusions and internalized structure, creating a form that feels simultaneously bodily, abstract, and architectural.
The collection explored interiority, distortion, and the unstable boundary between body and garment, with many pieces appearing almost visceral in construction. Here, a gathered waistband introduces a utilitarian counterpoint to the otherwise radical silhouette, grounding the piece in wearability while preserving its sculptural force.
Conceptual, confrontational, and highly collectible, this piece stands as an important example of Rei Kawakubo’s continued investigation into internal structure, abstraction, and the reshaping of the human figure.
