Listing: 1 x Friction powered space x ray gun with sparkling & sounding, vintage toy, with original box, circa 1970's.

Condition: Used, vintage condition. Estimated to be from the 1970's. Includes the original box, there is wear to the box and box has been opened. No instructions. This item has been tested as working - the sound and the sparkling is still working. There is a crack on the underside of this item, please see the listing photos for the crack and the repair work. There are some areas of plastic discoloration and some surface wear. From smoke-free and pet free premises.

Vintage Friction Powered Space Pilot X Ray Gun – Sparkling & Sounding – Made in Hong Kong – Boxed

A classic vintage friction powered Space Pilot X Ray Gun, made in Hong Kong and complete with its original illustrated box. A great example of the colourful space toys produced during the 1970's space-age toy boom.

The gun is moulded in metallic gold plastic with a red nose cone and features side viewing windows showing the internal sparking mechanism. When the trigger is pulled the friction motor operates, producing both sound and visible sparks, just as intended.

The body is marked “SPACE PILOT X RAY GUN” and the box is printed “Friction Powered Space X Ray Gun – with Sparkling & Sounding.” The box also carries an NK diamond logo with model number No. 224 and states Made in Hong Kong.

These friction spark ray guns are popular with collectors of retro space toys, vintage ray guns and Hong Kong export toys.

Note about the sparkling & sounding feature - this is produced by a friction effect when the trigger is manually pulled, not batteries and no electronics. As this is a friction effect on the metal, if this item was used as a regular toy, the friction / flint area of this item would eventually wear down and need replacing internally.
