The Shapton K0702 is a classic Japanese Ceramic Whetstone for sharpening bladed objects such as knives, chisels, planes, scissors and shears.
This stone should be used with water; either sprayed on or splashed on. This stone does not have be soaked, making it very quick to get into use.
The stone is shipped in a well fitted orange plastic box that has rubber feet to prevent slipping. This box can also be used as a stand when the stone is in use and for storage.
1000 grit is classified as 'medium' in Japan and is the perfect 1st stone for those who are getting started.
In practice, 1000 grit will leave a decent edge on kitchen knives and most other tools. It is just coarse enough to get out chips on damaged knives and just fine enough to create a nice edge for efficient cutting.
