Grateful Dead : July 1978 - The Complete Recordings ! : 12-CD Box Set : Five ( 5 ) Complete Shows ! : Limited Edition Individually-Numbered Set ( of # 15,000 ) : Artwork by Cartoonist Paul Pope ! : 2016 (1978/2016) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. / Rhino ( GDP / Rhino ) - ( R2 554485 ) : Summer Tour Grateful Dead ! ... ' Live ' in '78 !!!
Grateful Dead Fans !!! ... Deadheads-Everywhere ! ... who Love ! that one-of-a-kind Late-1970's ! Grateful Dead Sound !!! Offered here is the Stellar ! Grateful Dead - July 1978 : " The Complete Recordings " 12-CD Box Set !!! Dang ... What a Treat ! to the Grateful-Ears ! A Magnificent ! release which most definitely caught me by surprise ! While I keep thinking that a " Radio City & Warfield '80 " Box Set release ( at least in some-form ... ) might just be right-around-the-corner ... in the meanwhile - I keep getting pleasantly-blindsided by more unexpected Live-Dead " Magic ! " The " Complete " Recordings of the July '78 " Run For The R...ed Rocks " !!! Hah ! I mean hey, let's face it ... any Deadhead worth their weight in " Dead Tapes " has been Heavily-Rocking ! these 7/7/78 & 7/8/78 Red Rocks Shows for Decades ! Two-Shows So-Incredibly-Amazing ! ( and, so-well ' circulated ' too ) that you could pretty much ' count-on ' hearing them as an enjoyable background " Soundtrack " in the Parking Lot and/or on ... " Shakedown Street " ! back in the Good Ol' G.D. Touring-Daze ! At " Any-Given Venue "... " Anywhere " !!! I did my fair-share ( and then some ... Ha ! ) of Touring back in the day - and, when it was all said & done ... I'd probably have to say that I saw more Shows at the Coliseum ( Oak-Town ! ) than anywhere else ? With ... maybe the Good Ol' Cap Centre ! coming in a real close second, when I was a young lad. And ... I'd betcha my bottom-dollar that I never walked the lot more then 3-Shows straight - at Either ! of these-two Legendary G.D. Venues ... without hearing Red Rocks 7/7/78 and/or 7/8/78 properly " Blaring " at least somewhere in " The-Lot " !!! A Dead-Fan " Favorite " from all walks of life, pretty much ' Ever-Since ' ... July 7th & 8th, 1978 !!! As obviously ... these were indeed the Very-First ! " Red Rocks " !!! ..." Dead Shows " Ever! - of the 20-Total that the Band ever played there. And, these are indeed Two ( 2 ) Shows that many knowledgeable Dead Fans will indeed solemnly-swear to be two of the Very-Best ! Shows of the Grateful Dead 1978 Touring-Year. And ... though I do " personally-prefer " 1/22/78 ( Hah !!! ) ... I guess I have always had to kind of somewhat agree with the keen opinion of the fellow Dead Fan masses. Start really comparing these Shows pound-to-pound " in-depth ", and you will find Both ! of these Red Rocks Shows in the 1978 " Top 10 " ( or, real-darn-close ) all things considered, no matter really how you might try to slice & dice it. And ... at least to me & my Dead Fan ears - This ! is just-exactly what makes this " July '78 " Box so unique, essential - and vital from a Late-'70's G.D. ' Necessary-History ' standpoint. I mean ... Wow ! ... & Wow !!! as all of a sudden, you are all-caught up on ( & promptly addicted-to ) the Three ( 3 ) Entire-Shows !!! which led-up-to this Classic ! Red Rocks '78 Live G.D. Magic ! I previously only owned 3 of the 5 sets on tape, and there are some heavy-Heavy ! duty surprises lurking everywhere in these Pre-Red Rocks '78 Shows ... 7/1/78 Arrowhead ! > 7/3/78 St. Paul ! > 7/5/78 Omaha ! " Terrapin > Playin' > Drums " ! ... & The Other One ! in K.C. ... Loser - " Deal > Music " ! - " Scarlet > Fire " & Werewolves ! in St. Paul ... & " Lightnin' > Supp " ! - Deal, Samson & " Truckin' > Iko > Around " ! in Omaha, Nebraska ! Basically ... the Band was on a Serious ! Hot-Streak-Zone !!! leading up to the Climatic Red Rock Shows, and for the most-part ... most serious Dead Fans have yet to even-Hear ! a majority of this amazing music, until ... Now ! ... close to 40-Years Later !?! But ... Hey Now ! - better late, than never ! The fact is ... as " Majestic " as the 1977 Touring-Year was ... 1978, at times shows a bit more down & dirty ' Grit ' - and, in my opinion ... " Grit " can have a Huge ! payoff in improvisational ... Live Rock & Roll !!! '77-type " Silky-Smooth " most of the time + a little less " Disco Dead " tones + Garcia's " Growing " Tone ! ... and obviously new love-affair with his MXR Distortion + fueled tonality ( ' Script ' Logo ! ) - one of the Finest ! in Rock & Roll History, when it comes to " as-juicy-as-desired " light/medium distortion tones ... and Jerry was all-about Mastering ! this little brown box. I mean hey, we're all trying our best, right ? - but, after all ... he's " Jerry " ! Ha !! And sometimes, a little dirtier - is a little better - and, at least I say ... a way " key " component to the thorough '78 G.D. Sound !!! Borderline " Immaculate " ! A " Near-Perfect " July '78 G.D. Box Set ! - and too ... just to be a ' picky ' Deadhead for a brief-second ( Ha ! ) ... this would have been a " Perfect " Summer '78 Box Set if the ' powers that be ' would have just went " one-more-show " back in time ... to 6/25/78 " Duck U. !!!!! " ... you know, the one with the Ken Babbs ! fired " Space " !! But, then again ... it wasn't in " July ". Plus ... you might have needed a Spaceship to even get there. ;-)) Ha !! Enjoy this Incredible !!! " July 1978 Complete-Recordings " Box Set !!!!!
