Vintage miniature redware terracotta cup or planter featuring a sculpted face motif.


This small studio pottery piece appears to be hand-thrown with a hand-sculpted facial design applied to the exterior. The underside is signed with an unidentified maker’s mark. Based on style, clay body, and overall aesthetic, it is believed to be Mexican folk art pottery.


Provenance:

From the estate of Lucie Prinz of Cambridge, Massachusetts, whose collection included a strong representation of Mexican and Latin American folk art pottery alongside other global decorative arts.


Measurements:

• 2 1/4" tall

• 2 1/2" exterior width (widest point)

• 2" exterior depth

• Interior width: approx. 2 1/4" at widest, 1 3/4" at narrowest

• Interior depth: approx. 1 7/8"


Condition:

Good vintage condition with no structural damage.

There is one minor hairline crack on the left side of the lip and one tiny nick on the backside of  the cup (see photos). No other cracks, chips, or repairs noted.


A charming miniature piece suitable for use as a small planter, votive holder, or decorative folk art accent.
