This is a Pathfinder / Vanguard Models No. 5 Morris J-Type Van in 1:43 scale, produced exclusively for Roslyn Promotional Models in a strictly limited edition of only 100 pieces. The underside of the model is stamped “No. 1,” which refers to Pathfinder’s internal casting or base reference number for this body style. The outer label correctly identifies this release as Vanguard Models No. 5 — the official issue number for this specific Morris J-Type promotional edition produced for Roslyn Promotional Models. This numbering difference is normal for small-run white-metal producers of the period and does not indicate any mismatch. Although the outer label reads “Vanguard Models,” collectors commonly refer to these releases as Pathfinder / Vanguard due to the close association and overlapping branding used on small-run promotional issues of this period. This example is hand-numbered No. 72/100 and retains its original certificate and maker box. The livery features Hull Daily Mail advertising in a rich red finish (with a deep Post Office Red character), crisp graphics, and outstanding display presence.

Pathfinder and Vanguard were closely connected small-run UK white-metal producers known for finely cast, hand-finished promotional and trade releases during the 1990s–early 2000s. These were not mass-market items — each issue was produced in very small quantities for specialist retailers or promotional clients. The Morris J-Type itself was originally produced from 1948–1961, making it one of Britain’s most recognizable post-war light commercial vans and a favorite subject for period advertising liveries such as this example.

The original purchaser was himself a 1:43 white-metal manufacturer who maintained a private in-home museum of over 1,000 models displayed in glass cases. He purchased this example directly from the manufacturer, as he personally knew many of the small specialty makers of the era. This model remained in that controlled display environment from the time it was acquired. I obtained approximately one-third of his collection directly from his estate (which I will be selling on eBay); this piece has had only one owner prior to me and has only been removed from the box again for photography before being offered for sale.

Packaging & Condition:

VEHICLE: Near Mint (C-9).
At first glance, this model presents Mint — absolutely gorgeous in hand. The red finish is rich, even, and glossy, with beautiful depth and strong reflective character. Graphics are sharp and undisturbed. Under close scrutiny, there is a subtle dark rub along the rear right edge (visible in close-up photo) and a light surface reflection in one decal area (more visible under bright photography lighting than in hand). These are minor and do not detract from overall presentation. Chrome trim is bright with no oxidation visible. No edge chips. No playwear. Base screws undisturbed.

BOX: Near Mint (C-9).
Original maker box is structurally strong with moderate shelf wear, visible darker scuff marks on one side panel, light surface scuffs, and a very slight edge crease visible in photos. Certificate included and clean. See pics for exact contents and condition.
