Small Block Ford Bronze Cam Thrust Plates — Reduced Thickness (.161) — Builder / Torrington Setup — 289 302 351W

This listing is for small block Ford camshaft thrust plates for 289, 302, and 351 Windsor engines. These plates are manufactured from bearing bronze and were produced for a controlled custom engine program rather than standard replacement use.

Measured thickness is approximately .161 inch.

Standard production SBF thrust plates are typically thicker, so these are not intended as drop-in replacements for stock cam thrust control systems. Instead, these are best suited for experienced engine builders working with measured, custom cam endplay setups.

These plates are particularly well suited for builds using:

• Torrington cam thrust bearing conversions

• Selective round shim cam endplay systems

• Blueprinted performance engines

• Custom timing set stack height corrections

• Reduced-thickness thrust plate requirements

In a Torrington bearing setup, thrust load is carried by the bearing and selective round shims at the cam gear. In those applications, the thrust plate primarily serves as a locator and retainer, and a thinner bronze plate is often desirable to maintain proper overall stack height.

Material advantage:

Bearing bronze offers improved wear behavior and embedability compared to stamped steel plates and is commonly used in performance and specialty engine components where controlled thrust surfaces are desired.

Builder configuration note:

A knowledgeable builder may use a standard steel thrust plate behind this bronze plate as a spacer to increase total stack thickness when required. If this method is used, the builder must verify:

• Camshaft endplay with a dial indicator

• Oil feed hole alignment through the plate stack

• Plate flatness and surface condition

• Proper bolt thread engagement depth

This is considered a custom assembly method and should only be performed by an experienced engine builder.

Timing cover clearance note:

Final front stack height varies by cam bolt, fuel pump eccentric, timing set design, Torrington bearing thickness, and shim selection. Timing cover clearance should always be checked during mock-up assembly. Rotate engine by hand with cover installed to confirm no interference.

Specifications:

• Application: Small Block Ford 289 / 302 / 351W

• Bolt pattern: standard two-bolt SBF thrust plate pattern

• Material: bearing bronze

• Thickness: approx. .161 inch

• Configuration: specialty reduced-thickness plate

• Intended user: experienced engine builder / performance shop

These are specialty builder components intended for measured custom builds — not assumption installs. Please verify your camshaft, timing set, and thrust control method before purchase.
