Superb antique spirit kettle and stand, featuring dual locking pegs, claw foot stand, blank carthouches, complex decorative design, bone insulators in handle, and retailer stamp to base "Drummond Melbourne".
William Drummond operated under that name from 1878 in Melbourne as a jeweller and silversmith / high-end silverware retailer. The style of this piece suggests it dates to the late 1800s.
The plating is in great condition, the lid hinge works well. The only condition issues are a chip of bone missing from one of the insulators, and a very minor dent just to the right of where the rear end of the handle attaches to the pot (see rear view photo). Locking pins are in good order although a little tight fitting in the larger hinge.
Overall this makes for a spectacular display item, and with a link to 1800s Melbourne.
Only polish with a fine product like Goddards.
