Very rare and fascinating, "ca.1890's Advertising Handbill from New Hampshire, for “Dr. Twombly / Chiropodist (Foot Doctor.)"This Advertising Handbill is printed on a light weight brown paper stock and measures approx. 7 3/4" by 3 1/2". The Handbill reads in part “Dr. Twombly of Littleton, NH, … the most successful Chiropodist in the country … " It goes on to list the various maladies he treats: Corns, Bunions, Club and In-growing Nails or ANY diseases of the Feet. "All severe cases treated successfully."
It goes on to list his various credentials, including having treated people in every state in the Union, as well as the thousands of obstinate cases he's successfully treated. The handbill concludes by stating that he will make house calls if requested.
This handbill would have been used as a handout to advertise for a traveling doctor (or Chiropodist) to bring in new clientele for the period of time that he was in town. In fact there is a place on the handbill to write the place were he would be having office hours. And in the case of this handbill, it is penciled in "A. J. Chamberlain, Elem House."
This rare and wonderful, Chiropodis Advertising Handbill is an original (not a copy) in excellent condition. There is some very light age toning, minor damage to the bottom right-hand corner, and some edge wear on the left-hand side. However the printing is dark and vibrant and the sheet is clean and crisp with very little page creasing. (See the photos above and below.)
A rare and quite wonderful "ca. 1890's Advertising Handbill from New Hampshire, for “Dr. Twombly / Chiropodist (Foot Doctor,)" and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
