Signed in pencil lower right. Labeled as artist's proof on reverse, apart from the edition of 95 co-published by Korean Friends of the 1993 Whitney Biennial and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Printed on white wove paper with watermark and stamp. Faint soft folds and marks from handling. This proof is a variant on the published edition, which has an additional botanical figure in the upper left corner of the lefthand plate.

MERCE CUNNINGHAM (1919-2009) was one the most important choreographers of the 20th/21st century. With his partner, John Cage, he developed chance-based structures and other formal devices for dance that continue to influence the field of contemporary dance. His drawings and printwork, which frequently take up the animal and plant world as subject matter, are a much smaller outgrowth of his work.
