The 2009 Native American Dollar commemorates the "Three Sisters" agriculture system, showing a Native American woman planting corn, beans, and squash together, a method where each plant supports the others (corn for climbing, beans add nitrogen, squash blocks weeds). This coin, featuring Sacagawea on the obverse (front), was the first in the series with a new reverse design each year and highlights Native American contributions to agriculture and cultural understanding.

Significance: This was the first year of the Native American Dollar Program, where the reverse design changes annually to honor different Native American themes, starting with agriculture.
