This Post Office Door was made by Keyless Lock circa 1920. It's a true antique. It's made of cast bronze and features a flying eagle on a sunburst background. It's opened with a 3 digit combination which is taped to the bottom of the bank.
There is a coin slot in the top and the bank is about 5 inches wide, 6 inches high and 4 1/4 inches deep.
It's a perfect gift for anyone, any age. Teach a child to save. Help an adult relive their past.
The door is made of bronze. All of the doors I use in these banks had many years of service in a Post Office. Most like this one are over 100 years old. I've rebuilt them, cleaned off the grime and got the locks working smoothly. They are true works of art deco. I use number decals that were surplused from the Post Office to put the numbers in the windows.
Like with most of the wood I use this wood is reclaimed. The cabinet is made with old growth oak. I got this wood from a local mill that had the beams from a wooden rail road trestle Some quick research indicates that they haven't made trestles out of oak since around 1900. I imagine the trees were more than 100 years old when they were cut down over 100 years ago. I think the wood qualifies as old growth. They were milling the beams to make flooring and shared the mill ends with me. This bank is unique and would be a great conversation starter.
