The beaters don't plug all of the way in (third last pic), so that clunk into each other when running.  The variable speed does work.  See video to see how a single beater is wonky.  

There is a break in the plastic stand shown in the fourth pic, so I don't know how reliable it would work on the stand.  Also note that I have no idea what that piece in the last 2 pics is for - it might not even go with this mixer.
