Lithops pseudotruncatella ssp. archerae C306, 10 young plants at 10mm+ size, supplied bare rooted.  These plants hace very attracrive patterning and a grey/brown coloration. Photos are of plants offered for sale. These plants are 12 months plus in age and have well-developed root systems. At this stage they have well developed patterning and are miniature versions of the adult plants. They are ready to transplant into new homes. Young plants are quite forgiving for beginners. They thrive with regular watering, but should be allowed to dry completely between waterings. Adult plants follow a more strict annual growth and rest cycle which must be carefully observed for best results.

Lithops, also known as pebble plants, are succulent plants native to arid areas in southern Africa and Namibia. Given proper care they are easy to grow. They like a mineral-based growing medium with low organic matter content (usually around 10%). I like to use to use a mix based on decomposed granite (available from landscape suppliers), pumice chips (1-4mm grade) with about 10% composted pine bark fines, although growers will have their preferred recipe. It is essential to grow plants under cover to protect them from rain, especially during rest periods and to water at intervals of several weeks or more between waterings during the growing season only, so plants are mostly bone dry. A good indication of need to water is when the top begins to wrinkle a little. Plants are given no water between about mid-May to late September in southern Australia. A dry rest of about of about 6 weeks over the hottest summer weather is also recommended. Bright filtered light, but not full summer sun is best. Plants regenerate themselves each year, a process known as 'splitting', where the old leaves shrivel while a new set of leaves form. Plants must remain dry until the split is nearly complete so that the new growth can develop properly. The late summer to autumn flowers are very pretty and are of the 'pigface' type (somewhat like daisies). There are a number of good books and internet sites for information. Consider joining a facebook site such as 'Love Lithops' to expand your knowledge.
