Background information

The Gloster Meteor made history as the Allies' first operational jet fighter in World War II. But it was only with version F.8, which appeared in 1950, that the pattern reached its technological zenith. With an extended fuselage, more tank capacity and a modified tail, it became the mainstay of the Royal Air Force. It marks the transition into a new era of aviation in which speed and climb performance have suddenly been redefined. The Meteor F.8 was a reliable workhorse that earned the respect of its pilots, not only in Europe but also in tough operations over Korea.
