Much like the Yoruba, the Ewe-Fon groups also honor the spirit of deceased twin children and siblings. In the Togo-Ghana areas these figures are commissioned and kept in high regard in the living areas of the main family compound.
This female figure, is smooth and looks to have been used, dressed, and handled extensively from the sight of the finish and patina. These were used in that last few years traditionally, and before they were part of a larger research collection in NY.
