German Fraktur letterpress with hand-coloured woodcut of the Madonna and Child (“Gnadenbild Maria Dorfen”), flanked by two angels. 

Surrounding text headed „Ein schönes Exempel von Unser Lieben Frauen mit einem armen Hirten-Mägdlein. Geschehen zu Dorffen in Unter-Land Bayern.” (A beautiful example of Our Lady with a poor shepherd girl. Happened in Dorffen in Lower Bavaria.)

A pilgrimage / devotional souvenir from the shrine dedicated to the 1642 apparition of the Virgin Mary to a poor shepherd girl near Dorfen (Erding, Bavaria). Lovely example of an early 19th-century German Catholic pilgrimage print, ideal for collectors of Marian devotions, Bavarian folk religion, Andachtsbilder, sacred art, woodcuts and early printed ephemera.
