Rare opportunity to own 6 of humorist George Mikes’s classic books from his peak period in the 1950s. Mikes was known for his wry observations on other cultures and these “fish out of water” narratives are very funny indeed, even 75 years later.
About
Mikes himself was a Hungarian emigre to Britain just as WWII broke out. He often worked with illustrator Nicolas Bentley— famous for his drawings for T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (the source for the musical “Cats”). Mikes also worked with the marvelous David Langdon, cartoonist for “Punch” and The New Yorker, among other publications.
