RECORD GRADING OVERVIEW Please Read

Visual Grading System combined with Play-Grading System

Records are Visually Graded then partially Play-Tested on both sides to confirm Audio Quality. If there is an area of the record I feel requires testing (scuff or scratch), I will test that as well. Not perfect but better than just Visual Grading.

Visual Grading Guidelines for Used Records

MINT (M) Record and Cover Are absolutely perfect in every way. Records that have been opened are rarely, if ever, Graded Mint.

NEAR MINT (NM) - Record and Cover Looks like they just came from a retail store and were opened for the first time.

EXCELENT (EX)

Record is bright and shiny, has no needle scratches. At most, a few light surface scuffs per side.  None of these should affect Audio Quality. Without these scuffs they would be NM.

Cover should have very minor signs of wear only on edges or corners, if any. No writing, tears, stains, or splits. Back and front cover has no noticeable damage.  Inside insert is the same condition and original. All posters or other packaged merchandise is present and in excellent condition.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)

Record show more signs of use and wear, including surface scuffs, scratches and hairline cacking, "spider webs". Marks around the center hole, very light ring wear. Slight warps that don't affect the sound are OK. Label discoloration might be present. None of these should affect Play Quality.

Cover Might have some very minor seam or corner wear, or a split (less than one or two inches long, on sides or bottom of sleeve). It might have a very faint start of a record ring, maybe a scuff or two on the body of the cover. Occasionally, it may have  tape to control the split, never duct tape.

VERY GOOD (VG)

Record could lack some gloss found on factory-fresh records. It does not skip, but it may have scratches or other wear that could affect the audible. Typically, these are light clicks or

Cover might have some ring wear, obvious, but not overwhelming. Writing on the record or cover, some seam-splitting might be present or taped.  Damage will be more obvious on body and sides of the cover. In general, they look decent enough, function, and they are not all shredded on the sides or falling apart.

GOOD PLUS (G+)

Record and Cover will be recognizable but for the most part, it?s beat up worse than Rocky.    (I avoid selling Good (G+) rated records unless they are Highly Collectible and Valuable)

GOOD (G) and FAIR (F)

There is a reason it?s an F or one letter away. (I avoid selling a (G) and (F) rated unless it is Highly Collectible and Valuable.

NOTE: I ignore writing when grading Covers or Records except for EX and above. It?s just part of the albums journey
