This set celebrates the unique species of the marine fauna of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov – an integral component of Ukraine’s natural heritage. The Black Sea and the Sea of Azov play a crucial role in preserving the region’s biodiversity, maintaining ecological equilibrium, and ensuring the country’s economic stability. Among the many inhabitants of these waters are the hermit crab (Diogenes pugilator) and the round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) – species that serve as bioindicators of the condition of the marine environment, and are important elements of the marine ecosystems. With this set, the NBU aims to draw attention to the problem of marine preservation, remind humanity of its responsibility for the protection of natural resources, and emphasize the significance of marine biota in shaping Ukraine’s ecosystem.

Obverse of the coin dedicated to the Sea of Azov: in the center of the composition is a stylized contour of the Sea of Azov with the adjacent territory of Ukraine, executed in the form of relief horizontal lines that imitate sea waves. Above, to the right, is Ukraine’s small state coat-of-arms, under which are the coin’s issue year 2025 (placed horizontally) and the legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) (placed vertically). Beneath are the coin’s face value 5, the graphic symbol of the hryvnia and the mint mark of the NBU’s Banknote Printing and Minting Works. At the bottom of the composition are the following semicircular legends: АЗОВСЬКЕ МОРЕ and THE SEA OF AZOV. Reverse: there are two round gobies (an element decorated with color printing) in their natural habitat – on a sandy-silty bottom among rocky fragments and aquatic vegetation. In the foreground, a clutch of eggs is shown, emphasizing the species’ reproductive function and its ecological significance. The legend БИЧОК-КРУГЛЯК (round goby) is placed in a semicircle at the top, and the legend NEOGOBIUS MELANOSTOMUS is at the bottom.

The set of two commemorative coins is dedicated to the unique representatives of the marine fauna of the Black and Azov Seas - an integral part of the natural heritage of Ukraine. The Black and Azov Seas play an important role in preserving the biodiversity of the region, maintaining ecological balance and ensuring the economic stability of the state. Among the many inhabitants of these reservoirs are the hermit crab (Diogenes pugilator) and the round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) - species that serve as bioindicators of the state of the marine environment and are important elements of marine ecosystems. With this set of two commemorative coins, the National Bank of Ukraine aims to draw attention to the problem of preserving the seas, remind of humanity's responsibility for the protection of natural resources and emphasize the importance of marine biota in the formation of the ecosystem of Ukraine

At the top right is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, under which is the inscription UKRAINE. At the bottom in the center is the denomination - 5 with a graphic sign of the hryvnia, the year of minting of the coin - 2025, as well as the logo of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. In the lower part of the composition, the inscriptions: BLACK SEA and THE BLACK SEA are placed in a semicircle. The reverse of the coin depicts a hermit crab (decorative element - color printing) in a typical biotope - on a rocky bottom with shells and fragments of shells, which are characteristic of the coastal zone of the Black Sea. At the top, in a semicircle, is the inscription DIOGENES PUGILATOR, and at the bottom - РАК-САМИТНИК.
