The 2022 Frontline Workers $2 coin was released by the Royal Australian Mint to honour Australia's frontline workers for their crucial role in keeping the country functioning and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. The coin features representations of 12 different frontline workers and is legal tender. 

Purpose and Design:

The coin was a direct expression of gratitude to the thousands of essential workers who risked their own health and safety to keep Australians healthy, safe, and informed during the pandemic. 

It features 12 representations of frontline workers, including doctors, nurses, teachers, retail workers, and contact tracers.
