Chinese Porcelain Brush Holder Zhu Shan Mark and Period Republic Zhushan

Chinese porcelain bush holder made during the Republic Period (1912-1949)

Marked on the base with the Zhu Shan mark.  

Zhu Shan means Pearl Mountain, or Pearl Hill, the site of the old Imperial kilns in Jingdezhen and the meeting location of the Eight friends of Zhu Shan.

The Eight Friends of Zhushan was a group of porcelain painters mostly active from the 19th century to the 20th century.   The Eight Friends of Zhushan were among the best porcelain artists of the Republican period. The group was instrumental in revitalizing the Chinese porcelain industry in the wake of the hardship that befell the whole of China after the Taiping rebellion and other uprisings and political unrest in China in the mid 19th century and after the fall of the Qing dynasty (Gotheborg)

This is a period example.

It is about 4 3/8 inches tall (about 11cm).   Maximum width is just under 4 inches (the widest diameter).

It weighs about 321 grams.
